Our Vision

The Shaw Family Charitable Trust works to materially improve the lives of animals.

 Theory of Change

The Shaw Family Charitable Trust is dedicated to building a collaborative network of organizations committed to ending animal suffering. We believe that lasting impact for animals requires strategic investment across diverse initiatives—efforts that not only alleviate immediate needs but also transform the way humans relate to and coexist with non-human animals.

Billions of animals experience preventable suffering each and every day. Despite this, very few resources are dedicated to help these animals. Our contributions in this space will help only marginally, but we are hopeful that strategic investment will help correct deeper societal problems and bring generations of people into the animal protection movement for a more compassionate world for animals.

By investing in a range of organizations and initiatives, from newly founded sanctuaries to historically established campaigns, we aim to develop a portfolio of grantees that can collaborate, share resources, and innovate together to protect animals. As stewards of this mission, grantees should commit to experimentation, openness about their challenges, and decisive action, always guided by the long-term vision of ending animal suffering.

Who We Are

Established in 2024, by Don & Kathy Shaw, the Shaw Family Charitable Trust provides grants to nonprofit organizations across the United States who work to meaningfully improve the lives of animals by reducing the suffering of farmed animals, providing for the veterinary care and shelter services of companion animals, stewarding the conservation and protection of wild animals, and who think about the long-term collective impact of the animal welfare movement.
